Solar and battery rebates by state

The two federal discounts apply everywhere. Some states add their own help on top, and some earlier programs have closed.

Everywhere in Australia

  • FederalAvailable

Queensland

  • QLD GovernmentClosed

    Battery Booster rebate

Closed to new applications in May 2024. There's no Queensland Government rebate for solar or batteries at the moment, so Queensland homes use the two federal discounts.

How the federal solar rebate (STCs) works

Homeowners and small businesses installing solar for the first time can use the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) to bring down the cost.

  1. Your system earns certificates

Every eligible solar system creates Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). The number depends on how much power it will make: its size, the sunshine zone of your postcode, and the years left in the scheme (the "deeming period").

  2. You assign them when we install

You sign the certificates over at installation and we handle the paperwork with the Clean Energy Regulator.

  3. The value comes off your price

Each certificate is worth up to about $40, and the total is taken off your quote upfront. There's nothing to claim back later.
